Copyright and Licensing

Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES) supports the broad dissemination of scholarly research and encourages authors to maximize the visibility, accessibility, and impact of their work.

Authors retain copyright in articles published in Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES). By submitting and publishing an article in the journal, the authors grant the journal the right of first publication and agree that the published work will be distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under this license, appropriate credit must be given to the author(s), a link to the license must be provided, and any changes made to the original work must be indicated.

Articles published in JISES are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) .

Subject to the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license, users may:

• read, download, copy, and print published articles;
• share and redistribute the material in any medium or format;
• deposit and republish the published article in repositories and other platforms;
• adapt, remix, transform, and build upon the material;
• use the material for text and data mining;
• use the material for both non-commercial and commercial purposes.

These permissions apply provided that appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and source, a link to the CC BY 4.0 license is provided, and any changes to the original material are clearly indicated. No additional legal or technological restrictions may be applied that would prevent others from exercising the rights granted by the license.

Author Sharing and Self-Archiving

Authors may make the published version of their article publicly available on personal or institutional websites, institutional and subject-based repositories, academic networking platforms, preprint servers, and other appropriate scholarly platforms, subject to the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license. Authors should provide complete bibliographic information for the published article and, where available, a link to the article’s DOI and the applicable license.

Reproducing Material from Other Publications

Authors are responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions to reproduce material, including figures, tables, photographs, illustrations, substantial text extracts, or other copyrighted content, for which they do not hold the necessary rights and which is not otherwise permitted for reuse under an applicable license or exception.

Permission may be required for:

• the authors’ own previously published works where the necessary reuse rights were not retained;
• substantial extracts from copyrighted works;
• tables, graphs, charts, schemes, figures, or artwork reproduced from another source where reuse is not otherwise permitted;
• photographs or other copyrighted material for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights.

Authors must appropriately acknowledge the source of all reproduced or adapted material and comply with any attribution requirements specified by the copyright holder or applicable license.

Obtaining Permission

Authors should obtain any required permissions as early as possible to avoid delays in the publication process. Where there is uncertainty regarding the copyright status or permitted reuse of material, authors should obtain permission from the relevant copyright holder before submission of the final version of the manuscript.

Where permission is required, authors must comply with the acknowledgement wording specified by the copyright holder. In the absence of specific instructions, the source should be clearly acknowledged in the caption or accompanying text, together with an appropriate citation to the original work.
