Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access interdisciplinary journal dedicated to publishing high-quality theoretical, methodological, computational, and applied research at the intersection of intelligent systems, data science, complex systems, sustainability, environmental science, management, and socio-ecological research.

The journal provides a multidisciplinary platform for research integrating artificial intelligence, computational intelligence, machine learning, decision science, optimization, systems modelling, simulation, and advanced data analytics with environmental, social, technological, organizational, and sustainability challenges.

The distinctive focus of JISES is on intelligent approaches to interconnected systems in which human, environmental, technological, economic, and organizational processes interact. The journal particularly encourages research that investigates interdependencies, feedback mechanisms, uncertainty, trade-offs, resilience, adaptation, and transformation across these systems and develops advanced methods for their analysis, prediction, optimization, governance, and decision support.

Rather than addressing artificial intelligence, sustainability, environmental systems, or management as isolated domains, JISES promotes their integration within a systems-oriented analytical framework. Particular attention is given to research demonstrating how intelligent and computational methodologies can contribute to understanding complex system behaviour and to designing sustainable, resilient, and adaptive solutions.

General Guidelines for Authors

Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES) publishes the following types of manuscripts:

Original research articles should clearly identify the research problem, establish its relevance to the scope of the journal, provide an appropriate review of the scientific literature, identify a clear research gap and scientific contribution, employ rigorous theoretical, analytical, computational, experimental, simulation-based, or empirical methods, and provide a critical interpretation of the results.

Methodological papers should introduce novel or substantially improved analytical, computational, modelling, optimization, simulation, or decision-support methodologies. Such papers should demonstrate the methodological contribution and establish its relevance through appropriate theoretical analysis, benchmarking, validation, experimentation, or application.

Application papers and case studies should demonstrate how intelligent, computational, analytical, decision-support, or systems-based approaches contribute to understanding or addressing substantive environmental, social, technological, organizational, management, or sustainability challenges. Applications should provide scientific insight beyond the routine use of established methods.

Short communications should present novel ideas, emerging methodologies, significant preliminary findings, or timely scientific developments relevant to the journal's scope in a concise form.

Review articles should provide comprehensive and critical analyses of relevant interdisciplinary research areas, synthesize the current state of knowledge, identify conceptual and methodological limitations, and propose meaningful directions for future research.

Perspective papers should provide well-supported scientific viewpoints on emerging challenges, methodological developments, policy questions, technological transformations, or future research directions relevant to intelligent socio-ecological systems.

Although research articles are typically between 8 and 20 pages, the journal does not impose strict page limitations provided that manuscripts maintain scientific quality, methodological rigor, clarity, and relevance. Authors are requested to prepare their manuscripts using the official JISES manuscript template and follow the journal's submission guidelines.

Extended versions of previously published conference papers may be considered provided that they contain substantial new scientific contributions beyond the original conference publication. Such contributions may include new theoretical developments, substantially enhanced methodologies, additional computational or empirical analyses, expanded datasets, broader case studies, additional validation, or significantly extended discussion. Previously published material must be appropriately cited, and the new scientific contribution must be clearly identifiable.
