Author Guidelines

Manuscripts for the Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES) should be submitted online through the journal's submission system at www.ises-journal.org.

The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript throughout the submission and peer-review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author list and that all authors have read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript.

To submit a manuscript, authors must register and log in to the journal's submission system.

Accepted File Formats

Authors should use the official Microsoft Word template or LaTeX template provided by JISES when preparing their manuscripts. Use of the journal template facilitates editorial processing, copy-editing, and production of accepted manuscripts.

Accepted file formats include:

PDF files: Manuscripts submitted as PDF files are accepted for the initial review stage. Editable source files will be required during the revision or production process.

Microsoft Word: Manuscripts prepared in Microsoft Word should be submitted as a single editable file using the official JISES manuscript template. Figures, schemes, and tables should be inserted in the main manuscript close to their first citation.

LaTeX files: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX should use the official JISES LaTeX template and the corresponding class and supporting files. Vector graphics such as EPS or PDF are preferred where appropriate. Raster images should normally have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Supplementary files: Supplementary materials may be submitted in appropriate file formats. Authors are encouraged to use widely supported, non-proprietary formats whenever possible.

Submission Checklist

Before completing the submission, authors should ensure that all necessary files and information have been provided.

The manuscript should include:

• title and author information;
• abstract and keywords;
• all figures with appropriate captions;
• all tables with titles, descriptions, and footnotes where applicable;
• appropriate citations to all figures and tables in the main text;
• references and other required back-matter sections.

Supplementary files should also be uploaded where applicable.

Reproducing Published Material from Other Sources

Authors are responsible for obtaining any permissions necessary to reproduce copyrighted material, including figures, schemes, tables, photographs, illustrations, or substantial extracts of text for which they do not hold the required rights and which are not otherwise available for reuse under an appropriate license.

Permission should normally be obtained from the copyright holder before publication.

Permission may be required for:

• the authors' own works previously published elsewhere where the necessary reuse rights were not retained;
• substantial extracts from copyrighted works;
• tables, graphs, charts, schemes, figures, or artwork reproduced or adapted from another source where reuse is not permitted by the applicable license;
• photographs or other copyrighted material for which the authors do not hold the necessary rights.

Permission may not be required where material is in the public domain, is available under a license permitting the intended reuse, or where the intended use is otherwise permitted under applicable copyright law. Authors remain responsible for determining whether permission is required.

When reconstructing a table using factual data previously published elsewhere, the original source of the data must be appropriately cited, for example using “Data from...” or “Adapted from...”, where appropriate.

Short quotations may be permissible under applicable copyright exceptions, but the original source must always be properly acknowledged.

Figures, graphs, charts, schemes, or other materials newly created by the authors from underlying facts or data should appropriately cite the original data source where relevant. Redrawing or modifying previously published copyrighted material does not in itself eliminate the need to obtain permission where permission would otherwise be required.

Obtaining Permission

Authors should obtain any required permissions as early as possible to avoid unnecessary delays in the publication process. If there is uncertainty regarding copyright ownership, licensing terms, or permitted reuse, authors should seek permission from the relevant copyright holder.

The Journal of Intelligent Socio-Ecological Systems (JISES) cannot publish third-party material for which the necessary rights or permissions have not been established.

Where a copyright holder specifies particular acknowledgement wording, authors must follow those requirements. Otherwise, an appropriate acknowledgement may take the following form:

“Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title], published by [publisher], [year].”

The acknowledgement should normally be included in the caption of the relevant figure, table, scheme, or other reproduced material.

Unless otherwise indicated, third-party material reproduced in an article may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions and should not automatically be assumed to fall under the CC BY 4.0 license applied to the article as a whole.
